Hermitage Museum - room 5

Heritage Museum is home to the famous Hall of Twenty Columns. Housed in Room 5 of the building, the Hall of Twenty Columns demonstrates a fine example of interior design dating from the first half of the 19th century. The hall was created by Leo von Klenz, the architect of the New Hermitage. At the time, he was the leading theoretician of museum construction. The walls of the hall are decorated with painted panels featuring images taken from the frescoes in Etruscan burial chambers. The hall itself was intended for display of antique vases. Therefore, its design includes special cases and table surfaces.
