Van Gogh's Sunflowers

Had it not been for the innovations in manufactured pigments, occurred in the XIX century, we would not have had the pleasure to admire the series of Sunflowers depicted by Van Gogh. The vibrancy of the new colours - among which there was the chrome yellow - was used by Van Gogh to create masterpieces of a rare intensity, one of which was given to his friend Paul Gaugin, to decorate his bedroom. The sunflowers are painted at varying stages of life, from blossom to wiltering.
