Van Gogh

Dutch Post-Impressionist artist, Van Gogh produced paintings which are today amongst the most expensive artworks in the world. During his career as an artist, a career which began only in 1880, he was not appreciated by the public and it was his brother Theo Van Gogh who supported him financially.
Pioneer of the Expressionism, Vincent Van Gogh influenced later artists of the 20th century, either of the German Expressionists or of the Fauves mouvements. He was a prolific artist, producing more than 900 paintings and 1100 between drawings and sketches. His first works are quite sombre, leading progressively to a distinctive trait and brightness, synthetized in the masterpieces produced after his time in Arles. Another kind of gloominess pervades his last works, one of which is the worldwide known
Wheat Field with Crows, which is said to be a kind of will of the artist, suffering from mental illness, which led him to commit suicide sometime later.
